SMCKC Member Benefits
As a member of the Social Media Club of Kansas City, you will…

  • Network and collaborate with other industry professionals. SMCKC has events monthly which give you the opportunity to connect with some of the best and brightest social media minds in KC. We host monthly breakfasts on the 1st Friday of each month. Additionally, we host lunches quarterly and happy hours monthly. Lunches are geared toward professional social media practitioners and dive a bit deeper into the realm of social media. Happy hours are generally for networking, but also sometimes include speakers presenting information on their practice. Come to our events to connect and build a trusted network of social media peers.
  • Get the chance to bolster your leadership skills. The SMCKC board and committees are made up of volunteers who give their time to curate the vibrant social media community that is SMCKC. We have leadership positions available within our chapter that allow our members to learn, lead, and gain added attention in the business community. Committees are in place for Events, Communications, Membership & Advocacy.
    • Events Committee: Members on the events committee help plan events, finding venues & contacting speakers. Committee members also help check people in and coordinate event day operations.
    • Communications Committee: The communications committee helps get the word out about SMCKC. Committee members tweet, post on facebook, instagram & LinkedIn, create Eventbrite events, write content for blog posts, build and send emails, curate Storify recaps and make sure Slideshare gets updated. The communications committee is the biggest and most active committee, as it taps into skill sets most prevalent in SMCKC members. It is a great committee to join to further develop social media management skills.
    • Membership Committee: If you’re looking to meet people and know who is who, the Membership Committee is for you. Membership committee members update email lists, recruit new members and send out and aggregate information from event surveys.
    • Advocacy Committee: Advocacy committee members help SMCKC ensure we’re giving back to the KC community. Two major events are part of Advocacy for SMCKC, and accordingly those events need committees. Ignition is SMCKC’s way of giving back to non-profits. AMPS is the annual awards show put on by SMCKC. Advocacy committee members help coordinate both events from the planning to execution stages. Members are needed to help with communications, event-day activities and member outreach. Committee members also help SMCKC reach out throughout the year to marketing organizations and educational groups throughout the city, finding events relevant to SMCKC members and highlighting member involvement.
  • Assist in the development of SMCKC direction. Whether through event surveys or simply giving us feedback, SMCKC members are essential in helping the board plan events and facilitate club growth. SMCKC also is actively looking for people to join the Brand and Agency Roundtable groups. These are small groups of SMCKC members who discuss topics specific to their interests.
  • Gain access to an archive of presentations by local leaders in social media and marketing. Miss an event? We understand everyone is busy. SMCKC shares information from presentations on our blog and on Slideshare to help keep you in the know and up to date on what’s happening in the social media world. You can browse through the archive to find a topic relevant to your needs.
  • Have opportunities to showcase your knowledge and build your portfolio. Members are invited to write on the SMCKC blog on social media and local topics. Members are also invited to contribute their expertise by presenting at breakfasts, lunches or happy hours. If you’re interested in presenting, contact the events team at events@smckc.com.
